This course is an introduction to drawing and shooting from the open holster. Emphasis will be on the four cardinal rules of firearms safety and proper technique of drawing & reholstering in a safe manner. Participants who successfully complete the course will be permitted to shoot from the holster on lanes 1 and 10 (lower benches) when available. This course is NOT a concealed carry certification course nor is it fast paced and tactical in nature.
Prerequisites: This training is NOT for beginners or first time shooters. Participants must have a firm grasp on firearms safety and must demonstrate it during the training session. Final approval is determined by our Director of Training and is NOT guaranteed. *LEO’s are exempt from the course but must meet with the Director of Training or his designee for inspection of holster(s) and review of terms.
Ammo – 100 rounds factory ammunition.
Handgun – Full size or compact handgun, no sub compacts.
Holster – Belt holsters only. A rigid holster that is manufactured for the participant’s handgun and allows him/her to draw and reholster from the hip with one hand. Belt – Sturdy belt that provides a stable platform for holster and minimizes movement. The following holsters are not permitted: Soft holsters, inside the pants, paddle, cross draw, shoulder holsters and *BlackHawk Serpa.
